“Discovering the treasures of MANN” with Fonderia Nolana Del Giudice
On Wednesday, May 23 at 10.30, the Fonderia will start a new big project entitled “Discovering the treasures of MANN”. The event will be held at the headquarters of the Fonderia Nolana with the scientific supervision of Luigia Melillo, Head of Restoration Laboratories and International Relations at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
Melillo has devised several exhibition itineraries to enrich the museum’s collections and Fonderia Nolana Del Giudice will begin this with the demonstration.
It will make the parade helmet of a Secutor gladiator. The demo will show all the steps of artistic creation with the Lost-Wax fusion technique.
It will be an artistic workshop using a technique exactly as it was used 2000 years ago.
Paolo Giulerini, Director of Mann, and Doc. Luigia Melillo will also be present.
The event is the consequence of scientific research aimed at reconstructing the life, customs and activities of Ancient Rome.
“Secutor”
The Secutor was a type of gladiator in ancient Rome, and the helmet was a distinguishing feature in the armament of this gladiator.
The helmet has a round shape and was usually made of iron or bronze to make it heavy.
Inside, it was padded with leather or wool to make it comfortable to wear.
The Roman helmet, like all the other ancient helmets, had the function of protecting the head of the Roman soldier from the violent attacks of the enemy.
Thanks to this event and thanks to the collaboration of Fonderia Nolana Del Giudice we will be able to immerse ourselves in a modern artisanal art, experiencing the past and its peculiarities.
