The Madonnina Statue of Milan Cathedral
The project “La Protezione” was promoted by the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, which collaborated with Fonderia Nolana for the realisation of a model of the statue of the Madonnina for the Cathedral of Milan on a scale of 1:1.
The artistic workshop in Nola realised the sculptural work in bronze, using the technique of lost-wax casting from a 3D model, built to support the development of a three-dimensional figure of the statue of the Virgin, and with the employment of milling systems.
The Madonnina statue is 4.16 metres high and weighs 1,390 kilograms. The weight of the internal load-bearing structure of the work is 250 kilograms, while 35 are the sections of the work combined together in bronze. 1,140 kilograms of statuary bronze and 4,750 24K golden sheets were employed for the realisation of this work.
